Types of heat transfer fluids

Types of heat transfer fluids

Thermal oils have provided us with reliable heat transfer for more than 50 years, allowing us to efficiently cool and heat from -90 ºC to 360 ºC. Since then they have been used in countless applications, facilitating our daily lives in the production structure, adding value, safety and productivity..

If we talk about thermal fluids based on their typology, we can find petroleum-based thermal fluids, synthetic organic compounds and special organic compounds.

There are different ways to obtain thermal fluids depending on their chemical origin, which give them specific characteristics and require different processes to obtain fluids that meet the current demanding industry standards.

We can divide thermal fluids according to three types:

fluids based on paraffinic-based hydrocarbons, which are considered derivatives of methane or naphthenic-based.

Fluids using synthetic organic compounds such as alkylbenzenes, alkylnaphthalenes, partially dehydrogenated terphenyls, benzylic aromatic compounds, alkyldiphenyls, terphenyls, diphenyl, diphenyl ether.

Fluids using special organic compounds such as polydimethylsiloxanes, fluorocarbons.

Thermal oils have a varied typology and chemical base, and require intense development work to give them the necessary specific properties, which makes them so appreciated and essential in today’s industry
